Weingut Kollwentz

The winery is located in Großhöflein, in Burgenland. The village finds itself on the western bank of the Neusiedlersee, at the foot of a hill. At the top of that hill is to be found the Gloria, a beautiful Chardonnay terroir, where Kollwentz create a world class wine. In my opinion, Weingut Kollwentz is overall one I could consider the best in Austria.

Andi Kollwentz is a lovely person and I think he is probably one of the most demanding and precise winemaker I have ever met. When I first visited his vineyard, I could not believe how well, how perfectly, they were take care of. Their work at the vineyard is tremendous, but the work at the cellar is as much unforgiving. If the quality is not matched, there will simply be no wine.

Andi is somebody who knows what he wants to achieve and knows how to get there. He gives me the feeling of quiet determination, supported with immense knowledge and reflection.

You can read more about the estate on their website.

Weingut Kollwentz is both a fantastic producer of white and red. The style of is classic and elegant. Andi Kollwentz doesn’t do over the top wine, super extracted and covered in oak. He works on elegance, complexity, structure, lenght in the palate. The wines are subtle and they age marvelously.

White wines are mostly based on Chardonnay. The comparison with Burgundy is self evident. In terms of quality, they match the best contenders. Kollwentz’ Chardonnays are a bit riper in the aromas, with more fruit and exotic fragrances. Its use of oak is simply perfect. Simply put, I have never tasted anything but great chardonnay from him.

The red wines are incredible. They punch in the category of Grand Cru. The power and complexity is incredible but always balanced, almost to the point they become too easy.

Our selection

For the Finnish market, we have selected some of the wine from Andi Kollwentz. As far as we can and depending on availability, it will be possible for us to adapt our selection to your needs.

Steinzeiler, red blend from Blaufränkisch, Cabernet Sauvignon and Zweigelt
Ried Point, red wine from 100% Blaufränkisch
Ried Tatschler, white wine from 100% Chardonnay

We use no botryicides, no insecticides and no herbicides. There is no ‘orange wine’ at the Kollwentz Estate and there are no amphoras. No oak chips are used, and no tannins are added. All white wines, all red wines and all sweet wines are matured in oak casks, for between six to thirty months."
